Turning Your Green Waste Into Local Resources: How We Recycle 100% of Your Garden Rubbish

When we collect green waste from your property, it doesn’t go to a landfill. We bring everything back to our 4,000 sqm farm yard, where every log, branch, and leaf is sorted and processed into firewood, soil-building compost, or landscaping cover.

1. Thick Branches & Trunks: Seasoned Firewood Heavy tree trunks and thick limbs are cut, split, and stacked inside our drying shed to season naturally. Once fully dried, we sell this firewood locally on Facebook Marketplace and TradeMe to heat homes through winter.

2. Leaves & Soft Greenery: High-Nutrient Compost Leafy waste, lawn clippings, and hedge trimmings are gathered into large composting bays.

  • Layering: We blend nitrogen-heavy “greens” (fresh grass, moist leaves) with carbon-heavy “browns” (dry leaves, small twigs).
  • Aeration & Heat: We turn the piles regularly to inject oxygen. This drives up internal temperatures, breaking down the organic matter naturally.
  • The Result: The end product is a rich, dark soil conditioner. We sell this to local landscapers, gardeners, and home growers. We also share it free with nearby commercial plant growers—who often trade us fresh local fruits and vegetables in return.

Processing & Reuse Guide by Plant Type

  • Dense Hardwoods (Oak, Eucalyptus, Olive, Pohutukawa, Fruit Trees)
    • Characteristics: Heavy, dense, low moisture content when dried. Burns long and hot with minimal smoke.
    • Treatment: Split into firewood logs and air-dried in the shed for 12–18 months.
    • Reuse: High-grade indoor heating firewood.
  • Softwoods (Pine, Macrocarpa, Cypress)
    • Characteristics: Resinous, ignites quickly, burns fast.
    • Treatment: Split into smaller sizes and dried for quick seasoning.
    • Reuse: Kindling, fast-burning firewood, or coarse woodchips for farm track surfacing.
  • Soft Leaves & Deciduous Foliage (Oak leaves, Maple, Birch, Garden Prunings)
    • Characteristics: Fast to decompose, rich in organic minerals.
    • Treatment: Shredded, mixed with grass clippings, and maintained in aerated compost rows.
    • Reuse: Organic compost for veggie beds, nursery plant growers, and home gardens.
  • Fibrous & Tough Materials (Palm Fronds, Flax, Bamboo, Native Ferns)
    • Characteristics: High fiber content, slow to break down, can tangle standard chippers.
    • Treatment: Processed through heavy-duty shredding or aged separately in long-term mulch piles.
    • Reuse: Heavy garden mulch for weed suppression, slope stabilization, and pathway covers.
  • Weed-Heavy Greenery & Lawn Clippings
    • Characteristics: High nitrogen content; may contain seeds or weed roots.
    • Treatment: Subjected to high-temperature composting (reaching over 60°C) to kill weed seeds and pathogens naturally.
    • Reuse: Blended into general soil conditioning mixes.
